#Teamnatural that’s a hash tag that has really excited our generation & for me that hash tag goes beyond embracing my natural hair. When I think of team natural I think of my natural physical, emotional & psychological structure as a female, my God given assignment and purpose on earth (Genesis 1:26-28), my natural African roots.
When God created man he said it’s not good for the man to be alone so he created woman, (Genesis2:18-22). So there goes my number one assignment as “team natural” which is embracing my female assignment as a helper. As a hormonal being, the earlier I accept the emotions and find ways to control it instead of hiding behind make-up& smile that everything is alright, the need to still be like God and the deception that I have all together. Before we continue our pursuit of perfection, and point fingers at Adam and Eve, let’s ask ourselves how far have we bitten the fruit, are we willing to surrender to God’s will or the fruit is too juicy we can’t let go?
Beauty is art, and there are different representations of art, I’m not disputing that fact. But me embracing my natural hair has nothing to do with creating art, (1) it’s the revelation of love for myself as I was created, to accept & appreciate God’s idea of beauty, (2) the ability to finally get rid of the lies (your hair needs to be straight, soft, curly, thick, long & silky if it’s not, don’t worry there are chemicals to help transform it to your desire, if you are still not comfortable, don’t worry just fix one). You shall not covet your neighbour’s property surely includes hair colour, texture and length. I had to be transformed by the renewing of my mind, with the words of Jesus in the Bible so I no longer had to conform any longer to the pattern of this world and embrace the natural gift God gave me.
The devil hasn’t changed as we are getting revelations he/she is also upgrading his/her lies. Although I’m #teamnatural, I still feel my hair has to be soft, conditioned and protein treated. So I’m still addicted to searching for a solution instead of just accepting. Focus on healthy diet, exercise and regular maintenance because the skin, mouth, nails and hairs are reflections of the health of the body.
At the end of the day, I am human, I recognise I fall short, thank God for forgiveness I accept and I know tomorrow I will rise again by your grace and it will be another brand new day& I can start all over again.
